Rule of 5: 5 changes I've made to my morning routine

I have spent many mornings, getting up at the very last minute before my day begins, running around to get things in order and then head out to school/ work, etc, and the stress that I carry with me for the rest of the day is very real.

It's not wrong when people say how we begin our day sets the tone for the rest of the day.

The realisation that the way I have been starting my mornings isn't very ideal dawned on me a long time ago, but I hadn't taken any efforts to improve it despite spending hours on Youtube getting inspire from many "Morning Routine", "Get ready with me to work", "How I start my day" videos.

Things took a turn for the worst during the Pandemic - my nights became days and my days became nights. The concept of time felt imaginary. I think it was a core period of reflection to understand myself. There was some big changes in my life after 2020, and despite the initial efforts to make concrete changes, I had not made a habit out of the routine until recently.

Upon reflection, the routine is not something that is entirely new but comprises of some changes and new additions, and some of it begins from the night before.

  1. Sleeping and getting up at the same time every night and day.

  2. Staying away from my phone at least 30mins before I go to sleep every night and when I wake up every morning.

  3. Reading the bible first thing in the morning. I personally follow the reading plans in the bible depending on what I'm feeling like. It helps to set the tone for the day.

  4. Starting the day with a warm glass of lemon water with cinnamon. - I've read a lot about the benefits of balancing the ph in your stomach like helping with inflammation and just helps you feel better in general.

  5. Eat breakfast!! - This is something I have been guilty of not doing for a long time, and there's a reason why it's touted as the most important meal of the day. I started feeling less peckish in later parts of the day after I started making time for breakfast, so that's a really positive change.

Stay tuned for more Rule of 5 posts!

Cheers,

M.
